christmas in whitchurch - the town centre revitalisation project's first activity
  Christmas in Whitchurch 2006 is a bigger and better version of CIW2005 which was the first short term project aimed at revitalising Whitchurch's Town centre - there is more here on the whole project. Pictures are to be found on the December 05 news archive page It was the winner of the Social and Community Section of the South East Rural Towns' Partnership annual awards and the organisers received a certificate to mark the event, details are here.

This year's pictures are now on the site press here for switching on the lights, the Christmas Market, WADS mystery plays and shop window displays.

This year 25 business, 14 local groups and members of the Whitchurch Association are actively working on a programme of activities from the middle of the year until now. These build include annual events such as Santa at the Mill and the Salvation Army Band playing in The Square

    10.30am Start of competition for children to decorate a paper Christmas tree. All the entries will be used as part of the decorations in the library, so a whole forest of decorated trees is required.
Collect a tree entry form from the library to take away and decorate
There are small prizes for first and second in two age groups of - 5 years and under and 6 to 11 years

    10.30am - 2pm Fairtrade tea and coffee and Fairtrade products in the Cottage from 10.30 - 11.30am and then jacket potatoes with various fillings, mince pies & coffee in the church from 12 - 2pm. �1.50 per potato, 20p mince pie and 50p coffee or tea. Complete with festive surroundings (!) and Christmas music - what more could you ask for?
    3.30pm Ladies Singing for Fun - Carols outside the Town Hall until .....
    3.45pm The mayor will present the Best Shop Window Trophy presentation and then switch on the town's lights (probably in a snow storm) followed immediately by .....
    4.15pm More carols from Ladies Singing for Fun
    4 - 6pm Then follow Santa to Santa at the Mill
