There was a festive atmosphere on the Millennium Meadow on Sunday 22nd October 2005 when the first "Meadow Dog Day" saw the area alive with dogs and their owners. The event was opened by Richard Adams and spectators, young, old and canine enjoyed a demonstration of agility by the Upandover Agility School, which is based at Hurstbourne Priors Equestrian Centre. The "serious" part of the day followed with competitions to find:
Roy Dykes, assisted with specialist advice from Thelma Cornwell, judged the classes and certificates and prizes, generously donated by Pets at Home, were presented to many delighted owners (and dogs). Richard Adams congratulated the winners, but strangely the rabbits, which are normally to be found in great quantities on the Meadow, failed to put in an appearance. Refreshments in the form of hot dogs and tea and coffee, provided by Over My Shoulder, were available for those who didn't bring a picnic The sun shone for at least part of the afternoon ensuring the success of what could well become a regular feature in the meadow. If you want to stage an event in the meadow, contact Graham Burgess on 892837. Larger versions of the photos on this page are available if you call 893264 in the evening or Phil. |
